Amid the protracted tensions between the US and China, US President Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold their first face-to-face summit on the 14th.

This meeting is held the day after the Korea-US-Japan summit, and in particular, the possibility of North Korea’s nuclear test is being discussed, so it is expected that the issue of North Korea will be taken seriously.

President Biden of the United States, who traditionally multiplied in the mid-term elections, which are traditionally unfavorable to the ruling party, is known as the ‘graveyard of the ruling party’ and Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has to elect for a third term in the party congress, finally meeting face to face.

The two leaders, who have only spoken on the phone five times so far, are meeting for the first time in Bali, Indonesia, where the G20 summit of 20 major countries is being held.

As tensions between the US and China continue to rise over the issue of Taiwan, attention is focused on whether the two leaders will find a clue to ease tensions.

The possibility of missile provocations and North Korea’s recent nuclear tests are also expected to be on the agenda.

A senior White House official said that the United States and China have a history of cooperation on North Korean issues, including the six-party talks in the past, and that they share promises about the norms of the non-proliferation regime.

Councilor Sullivan gave special meaning to the Korea-USA-Japan summit, held the day before the US-China summit, as it would be an important milestone in the relationship between the three countries.

In particular, during the meeting between President Yoon Seok-yeol and President Biden, he said they would discuss ways to strengthen cooperation with North Korea, such as discussing North Korea’s cyber threats.

Asked about the possibility of a North Korean nuclear test during the G20, he said there were still concerns about nuclear provocation, but the timing was difficult to pinpoint.

He also noted that North Korea could launch a long-range missile in addition to its nuclear test.
