[영상] I played Les Miserables… ‘Immediately’ Where to go in China

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Hwang Yun-jeong = Last weekend (26-27) in China, large-scale protests against the ‘Zero Corona’ policy continued in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan. In Shanghai, protesters were reported to have chanted slogans such as “Step down the Communist Party, step down Xi Jinping, and liberate Urumqi.”

Analysis has revealed that the dams of patience are collapsing in many parts of China, a strictly controlled society.

Lee Wook-yeon, a professor of Chinese culture at Sogang University, said, “I can’t make a living right now” because of the extreme corona containment policy.

An apartment fire incident in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on the 24th of this month became the trigger for this large-scale protest. Claims were made that the installations brought in to contain the corona caused major casualties as they interfered with the rapid fire suppression, and the protests continued.

There is also analysis that the Qatar World Cup fueled the protests.

Kang Joon-young, a professor at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies’ School of International Studies and Graduate Area, said, “I have no choice but to have doubts as to why we (the Chinese) continue to emphasize masks when no one wears masks during World Cup matches.”

It was also worth noting that the protesters came out with empty papers and held a protest.

Professor Kang analyzed, “If you remove something, it becomes censorship itself and does not remain,” and analyzed, “The concept of silent protest was expressed on paper.”

He added, “I think it could be something like ‘I have a lot to say, but I don’t write it down’ and ‘The Chinese authorities need to understand this situation’.”

On the 28th, at the location of the protest in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, it was reported that ‘Cân y Popl’ from the musical ‘Les Miserables’ was flowing from the car. The West, including the United States, is watching the situation in China as this protest could develop in a direction reminiscent of the Tiananmen Square incident in 1989, which demanded democratization.
