[용산M부스] President’s office provoked ‘controversy’ over Kim Gun-hee’s fan club photo

Photo of Kim Gun-hee’s office

On the morning of Sunday (29th), first-seen photos were uploaded to Ms. Geon-hee Kim’s fan club ‘Keonhee Sarang’ and Naver’s fan cafe ‘Geonsarang’. These were photos of President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Kun-hee sitting with their dogs in the 5th floor presidential office, and photos of President Yoon and his wife looking at their dogs walking around on the lawn in front of the government building. Kim Gun-hee’s first ‘exclusive’ photos were uploaded to her fan club.

Presidential office staff and reporters are prohibited from taking photos inside the office building due to security regulations. So, the next day, during a briefing with an official from the presidential office, the reporters asked: The questions were, “Isn’t the inside of the office building a security area? Who filmed it, and how did you get to the fan cafe first?”

An official from the presidential office answered, “It was not an official schedule, but a private time.” “Is there any need to follow the dog walking process and ask for a photo in a situation similar to leaving work?” and “If it is not an official event, we have no reason to ask for it,” repeated explanations.

Then, a reporter asked, “Is the person who took the picture of Mrs. Ms. and the person who took the picture out are the employees of the Presidential Office?”, and the reporters were confused as a presidential office official said, “I don’t think it is.” When I asked, “Then, who is not the president’s office employee?” I said, “Can’t you guess?” “Anyway, he was someone who could shoot in that situation,” he added.

The background explanation further raised doubts that a person who was not an employee of the President’s Office, who was not able to say exactly, took a picture inside the office building. In the end, there was even a question asking, “Then, did the person who was secretly come to the presidential office to take a picture?” and the briefing was over.

An official from the presidential office immediately volunteered for a correction briefing. When I checked it, it was Kim Kun-hee’s camera, and it was explained that the camera was taken by the staff of her annex, and that the picture was taken by Ms. N, her fan club herself. He added that he could not be sure that the person filming earlier was Ms. Kim Kun-hee, and she confirmed through the annex.

This time, I asked the fan club president, where the photo was first uploaded, how he views this controversy. Kang Shin-up, president of the ‘Keonhee Love’ fan club, said, “There is no big problem.” Visiting the Oval Office on a holiday is a “private activity” and “even if an acquaintance or someone took a picture and made it public, it is rather an opportunity to break away from the president’s solemnism and secrecy.” “It is the process by which the president and his wife walk down the veil and enter the people.”

On the other hand, Park Ji-hyeon, chairman of the Democratic Party’s joint emergency countermeasures committee, offers a conflicting view, saying, “I’m worried that it might be a preview of the president’s family intervention in state affairs.” Chairman Park Ji-hyeon said, “Many people worry that if the president’s office is in and out of the living room like a living room, the government will be in control.”
