[전국]What to do with schools exceeding the number of free meals

[앵커]

All schools in Ulsan provide free school meals, but the number of days for free meals is fixed.

However, it is said that some schools exceed the number of days of free school meals because they do not meet the academic calendar.

In this case, children will not be able to eat school meals.

This is a home correspondence sent to parents from a middle school in Jung-gu.

This means that all students will be dismissed before lunch on the 4th of the next month.

The reason is that meals cannot be provided beyond the number of free meal days.

[00중학교 관계자 : 185일(무상급식일)을 맞춰서 적절한 날에 시험 기간이라든지, 보통은 체험학습은 빼는데 다 빼고도 186일이어서 시험 첫날에 조정을 했습니다.]

The number of days for free school meals in local elementary schools is 192 days, 185 days for middle schools, 180 days for high schools, and 192 days for special schools.

However, there are schools that exceed the number of days of free school meals as the academic calendar is set by front-line schools.

In most frontline schools, the academic calendar is aligned with the number of days of free meals due to school excursions, experiential learning, and exam periods.

Some schools that exceed the number of free school days may provide meals with a different budget.

Front-line schools say that although each school has issues with equity, support is needed for the number of days in excess of free school meals.

Ulsan Office of Education plans to provide additional support for meal expenses if the number of days of free meals is exceeded due to changes in school schedules at frontline schools.
