[윤석열 / 대통령]

Respected people, soldiers of the Armed Forces and distinguished guests from home and abroad.

I sincerely congratulate Armed Forces Day on the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the armed forces.

On Armed Forces Day, I express my deep respect to the veterans and heroes of the country who made today’s Republic of Korea free.

I would also like to express my respect and gratitude to the living history of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, the founding elders, veterans, and reservists.

It is the Armed Forces soldiers who are fulfilling their duty to defend the land, sea and air of the Republic of Korea even now.

I would like to express my gratitude to the dedication and hard work of the foreign soldiers who raise the status of the Republic of Korea in all parts of the world.

And family members from the army who support them physically and mentally so they can be faithful to their duties.

I would also like to thank the USFK service members and their families who contribute to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

Comrade Koreans, all Armed Forces soldiers.

Our military has been fulfilling its role and responsibility as the reliable defender of the Republic of Korea for the past 74 years since its establishment.

During the Korean War, he defended his country with blood and sweat and defended freedom.

Despite North Korea’s constant provocations and security threats, it has defended the country with an unwavering posture of readiness.

And in the face of national disasters, he gave great comfort and emotion to the people by devoting himself to protecting the lives and safety of the people.

Our people can enjoy the freedoms they have today because of the soldiers of the Armed Forces who have defended the Republic of Korea with passionate patriotism and a strong sense of duty.

The status of our military has also completely changed.

It started in poor conditions without proper weapons and equipment, but now it has a national defense capability recognized by the world.

The KF-21, the next-generation fighter developed with our technology, made its first unmanned flight, and we built the world’s first-class next-generation Aegis destroyer, the Great Jeongjo, with our own hands. themselves.

We recently signed an export contract with Poland for the largest ever tank, self-propelled artillery and FA-50 light attack aircraft, establishing ourselves as a global defense export powerhouse.

Our troops contribute to freedom, peace, and prosperity in the international community by working on peacekeeping and reconstruction activities around the world.

I am so proud of our military, which has grown into a strong army as the commander in chief of the Armed Forces and as one of the people.

Comrade Korea, North Korea has not given up its obsession with nuclear weapons and missiles despite continuous opposition from the international community for the past 30 years.

Even recently, the nuclear force policy has been enacted, threatening the survival and prosperity of the Republic of Korea.

The development and advancement of North Korea’s nuclear weapons is a direct challenge to the international community’s nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Developing nuclear weapons will make North Korea’s lives even more painful.

Even now, the North Korean regime must make the decision to denuclearize for true peace and common prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

Comrade Koreans, beloved soldiers of the Armed Forces.

To protect the universal values of freedom, human rights, and the rule of law that we enjoy, and to ensure sustainable peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia, a strong national defense power must be supported above all else. another.

Our military will maintain a posture of robust military readiness and protect the lives and property of our people in the face of any provocation or threat from North Korea.

If North Korea tries to use nuclear weapons, it will face a determined and overwhelming response from the ROK-US alliance and our military.

President Biden and I further strengthened the ROK-US security alliance through the US-ROK summit in May and this trip.

Through the Extended Deterrence Strategy Advisory Body, the two countries have further strengthened their ability to implement extended deterrence, including the timely deployment of US strategic assets.

As part of these efforts, we conducted joint ROK-USA maritime exercises with the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier strike group.

Moving forward, the government will invigorate and strengthen ROK-US joint exercises and exercises to realize an alliance that operates strongly in response to North Korea’s provocations and threats.

In addition, in order to defeat North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats and to protect the lives and safety of our people, we will quickly complete a South Korean-style three-axis system to dramatically improve our reconnaissance and surveillance capabilities and strike capabilities against the North. Korea.

By establishing the Power Command, we will integrate advanced forces operated separately by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and enhance our security capabilities in new areas, including space and cyberspace.

Proud ROK Armed Forces Soldiers, the Republic of Korea is now facing a more serious and multi-layered security challenge than ever before.

In particular, the line between security and economy is blurring, and military resources are diminishing due to changes in the demographic structure.

In order to respond to these various crises and challenges, it is necessary to use advanced science and technology based on the 4th industrial revolution for national defense.

Our military must redesign its defense posture through Defense Innovation 4.0 and jump into a scientific and technological powerhouse optimized for the security environment.

Advanced asymmetric power needs to be rapidly achieved by grafting excellent high-tech science and technology from the private sector into all areas of national defense through bold regulatory innovation and building a human-human complex system based on artificial intelligence.

The mental readiness of our military is also very important.

We must strengthen the attitude of the people’s army and a strong army so that all our soldiers can establish a firm view of the enemy and strict discipline, and fight and overcome any threat through practical education and training.

The government will actively support the military so that it can boldly pursue defense innovation.

In particular, in order to create a barracks environment where our soldiers dedicated to the country can be satisfied, we will continue to push forward with increasing the salaries of soldiers, dramatically improving food, clothing and shelter, and improving the conditions for an order. and cadre service.

Respected Koreans, proud Armed Forces Soldiers.

And distinguished guests from home and abroad who have been with us here, strong security is what the people and the army create together.

Our military is ready to carry out any mission entrusted to us by the people.

I hope the people will believe in our military and send more support and support.

As commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, I have great faith in our military and will do my best to ensure that heroes in uniform are respected.

We will do our very best so that those who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the country together with the people can be treated with honor and respect.

Once again, congratulations on Armed Forces Day and I wish infinite glory and blessings to all the soldiers of the Korean Armed Forces.

Thank you
