FIRE – At least 11 firefighters were injured on Saturday May 16 in an explosion during a fire in a Los Angeles mall, local officials said.
Los Angeles Fire Captain Erik Scott told reporters that the injured firefighters had been burned but the severity of their injuries was unknown.
The firefighters were called in for a fire on the floor of a commercial building in the Little Tokyo district at 6.30pm, when “there was a major explosion that required the rescue of several potentially injured firefighters,” added Erik Scott.
Tobacco and vaping products
About 230 firefighters continued to fight the flames that spread across several buildings, as you can see in the video above. The one in which the fire broke out hosted a company that sold tobacco and vaped products.
The explosion was such that several outlets in the area were blackened. Thick smoke from the fire was visible for miles around. Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti said his services are closely monitoring the situation.
