A 16-year-old Chicago boy has died from gunshot wounds more than a week after a drive-by shooting in the city’s South Austin neighborhood left three teenagers wounded, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner and Chicago police.

The victim was identified as Cortez Hall, 16, of Chicago, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner. Officials stated that Hall died on a Saturday, more than a week after the August 18 attack on the city’s West Side.

The shooting occurred at approximately 9:29 p.m. in the 200 block of South Central Avenue, according to Chicago police reports. Investigators said the victims were standing outside when a dark-colored sedan drove past and an occupant opened fire, striking them.

According to Chicago police, an 18-year-old man was struck in the South Austin attack and transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. A second victim, also a 16-year-old boy, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was similarly transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. A third victim, a 16-year-old boy found at the scene with a graze wound to the arm, declined medical treatment.

The South Central Avenue incident unfolded during an evening of widespread gun violence across Chicago. Police reported that at least seven teenagers were shot that same evening and into the early morning hours in separate incidents citywide.

Those additional incidents included a fatal shooting in the Little Village neighborhood on the 2600 block of South Hamlin Avenue at approximately 11:11 p.m., a wounding in the South Deering neighborhood on the 10600 block of South Bensley Avenue at roughly 12:37 a.m., an injury on the Far South Side on the 13200 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue at about 10:16 p.m., and a shooting in the West Pullman neighborhood on the 11700 block of South Normal Avenue at around 8:23 p.m., according to Chicago police.

Chicago police continue to investigate the South Austin triple shooting. No further information regarding suspects or vehicles was immediately available from authorities.
