The pink gem is expected to be auctioned by Sodiam, an Angola-based diamond marketing company.

Angola’s Minister of Minerals, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said: “The beautiful pink diamond mined from Lulo also shows that Angola is a key player on the global stage for diamond mining. And it shows the potential and rewards for our commitment and investment in the growing diamond mining industry.”

The Angola mine is one of the world’s largest producers of diamonds. According to the American Institute of Gemological Sciences which conducts research on diamond production and in diamond mining in the basin Gems are mined from the gravel and sand of the river bed.
