(Mexico City = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jae-rim = A full-term woman who went out after accepting an offer to share free newborn clothes in Mexico was found dead.

According to local dailies such as El Universal and El Financiero on the 4th (local time), Rosa Isella (20) was found dead in a farmhouse near the port of Veracruz in eastern Mexico the day before.

Isela’s family had informed the police that she was missing, saying, “(She) left the house on the 30th of last month and did not return home.”

Isela said she decided to meet the person who posted on social media, “Sharing newborn clothes,” and was found to have lost contact after going out.

Prosecutors, who launched an investigation based on family statements and Isela’s final actions, said they had arrested two suspects, named Veronica ‘N’ and Gonzalo ‘N’.

At the time of the arrest, they were carrying a newborn baby believed to be Isela’s child. The child was immediately taken to hospital and is receiving treatment.

The Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office announced on Twitter, “At the time of the two arrests, there was a newborn child with them, and this child was rescued safely and is receiving the attention of the relevant authorities.”

Prosecutors are classifying this case as a femicide, which is being treated seriously in Mexico, and are looking into the details of the two suspects.

Mexican authorities also urged people to be careful not to fall victim to similar crimes that lure innocent citizens by using free sharing as bait on social media.

In Mexico, more than 1,000 cases of violence against women, including rape, murder and human trafficking, were reported last year.

As innocent women disappear and lose their lives one after another, the Mexican Congress recently revised the Criminal Code to increase the punishment for femicide offenders.
