Host Mariska Hargitay stepped into the master of ceremonies role for the 78th edition of the awards after previously securing her own history with the Television Academy. According to the BBC, Hargitay won lead actress in a drama series in 2006 for playing detective Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, a series that has earned her eight career Emmy nominations and is slated to reach its 600th episode during its 28th season this autumn.
