The coronavirus caused 365 deaths recorded in the hospital in 24 hours including, “for the first time, a young girl of 16 years” in Ile-de-France, bringing the assessment to 1.696 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic, announced Thursday evening the Director General of Health Jérôme Salomon.
According to Professor Salomon, 3,375 patients are now in intensive care (+548 in one day) with a severe form of the disease, out of a total of 13,904 (+ 2,365) patients hospitalized in France.
“All causes combined, compared to the expected”, Prof. Salomon indicated that “over the last week”, mortality has particularly increased in the Grand Est +29.9%, Corsica (+39.2%) , Hauts de France (+ 12.8%), Ile-de-France (+ 13.7%) and Bourgogne Franche Comté (+ 18.9%).
“This is a mortality mainly observed in people over 65 years old,” he noted.
With the exception of the 16-year-old girl who died in Ile-de-France, 34% of people in intensive care are under the age of 60 and 58% between 60 and 80.
Professor Salomon, who delivers the national balance sheet every evening, warned that “the epidemic continues to worsen” and mobilizes “in an exceptional and unprecedented manner” all hospitals, public and private: 576 of them are now receiving “covid-19 positive” patients.
