Jeddah: The Saudi Border Security Force rescued the crew of a Panamanian cargo ship that caught fire in the Red Sea. With the help of a foreign vessel, Saudi forces rescued the crew of the Panamanian-flagged vessel passing through the Red Sea 123 nautical miles northwest of the port of Jizan.

Colonel Musfar Alqarni, the army’s official spokesman, said that the Jeddah Search and Rescue Coordination Center had been informed that the ship was on fire. The location of the ship was determined immediately and the information was forwarded to the Command and Control Center and related departments in the Jizan region to provide the necessary support.

A Border Force rescue boat was sent to the spot where the ship was. The crew were rescued from the burning ship with the help of another ship traveling that way. There were 25 people from different countries on board. They were rescued and brought to the port of Jizan. Medical teams from the Security Forces, Health Affairs, the Red Crescent, the Directorate of Civil Defense and Passport came to treat them. Everyone’s health is satisfactory. The spokesman said he was later moved to his home and that legal procedures had been completed.
