A woman says that a man has stolen jewellery; The husband demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore for defamation

A husband seeks compensation from his wife who claimed that her husband stole her jewelery and other valuables. The husband filed a civil suit demanding compensation of 500,000 dirhams (about Rs. 1.12 crore). The incident took place in Abu Dhabi. The woman complained that her jewellery, bags and clothes worth Dhs 500,000 were stolen from her home.

Subsequently, the prosecutors brought the man to court, but he was acquitted by the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court and the Court of Appeal due to lack of sufficient evidence. But the husband claims that his wife’s move has tarnished his reputation. He then filed a civil suit demanding damages from his wife. He also produced copies of the judgments of the trial court and the appellate court before the court.

But the woman’s lawyer argued that his client had the legal right to file a complaint against the man who allegedly stole her valuables. The lawyer said that the woman proceeded in a legal manner when she lodged a complaint against her husband. But the lawyer asked the court to dismiss the case against her client as there was no evidence to show that the man had defamed her.

After hearing all the parties, the court dismissed the case. The court ruled that no compensation should be paid to the husband. The judge ruled that the wife had filed a complaint against her husband in the name of a right guaranteed by law. But the court also said that there is no evidence that the husband suffered material or moral loss.

Official court documents say the lawsuit was filed in a request to hire an accounting expert to calculate all the costs needed to raise his sister. He had said that he was legally his sister’s guardian and took care of everything including her food, clothes and living expenses until her marriage.

After hearing all the parties in the case, the court ruled that compensation should not be paid to the plaintiff.
