ABB has won an order from the Interconexion Electrica SA (ISA) group, which is presented as the largest utility company in South America.
The Zurich giant of electrical engineering will build a “reliable and efficient” network for an amount of 100 million dollars (96.2 million francs).
The two partners signed a five-year framework contract, ABB said on Tuesday.
Based in Colombia, ISA currently operates electrical infrastructure spanning some 62,000 kilometers, not counting the additional 7,000 kilometers currently under construction. The group supplies current millions of people and businesses, the statement said.
The ABB Power Grids unit, which will work on the project, has worked with ISA for several decades.
