Municipal: apart from Edouard Philippe, the ministers severely beaten in the second round

Marlène Schiappa, Gabriel Attal, Agnès Pannier-Runacher: the Secretaries of State competing Sunday were defeated in Paris and Vanves. Five ministers were elected in the first round.

Of the four ministers still in contention on Sunday, only the first of them won. In the ranks of government, Édouard Philippe has the monopoly of victory in the second round of municipal and inter-municipal elections: with 58.83% of the votes in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime), he defeated the communist Jean-Paul Lecoq (41, 17%).

In a city which he intends to entrust to the outgoing mayor (Les Républicains, LR), Jean-Baptiste Gastinne, until his departure from Matignon, the elected official greeted Sunday evening “net results” and an “act of confidence” . But his fellow candidates cannot say the same. The lists on which the State Secretaries Marlène Schiappa (Equality between women and men), Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Economy) and Gabriel Attal (National Education) are all sharply beaten.

No mandate for Schiappa and Pannier-Runacher

In Paris, the Secretaries of State Marlène Schiappa and Agnès Pannier-Runacher, supporters of the Walker Agnès Buzyn, did not even manage to become district councilors. In the 14th, Marlène Schiappa, ex-municipal councilor of Le Mans (Sarthe), second on the list La République en Marche (LREM), saw her candidacy plunge to fourth place. Behind the lists of Anne Hidalgo (47.99%), Rachida Dati (30.15%) and Cédric Villani (13.28%). In the 16th, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, seventh on the list supported by LREM (23.79%), is beaten by Francis Szpiner (76.2%), already near victory in the first round (47.80% ).

Third disappointment for the executive in Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine), where Gabriel Attal, second on the list of Walkers, sees his candidacy arriving in third position (19.87%). Far behind the outgoing mayor (UDI) Bernard Gaducheau (53.35%) and the ecologists of EELV (26.77%). The youngest of the government remains an opposition municipal councilor in this municipality of 30,000 inhabitants, where he was elected in 2014 under the colors of the Socialist Party (PS).

At the end of the election, the results were mixed for ten of the thirty-eight members of the government candidates for municipal elections:

five won it in the first round: Gérard Darmanin (Action et Comptes publics), the only minister elected mayor of Tourcoing (North); Franck Riester (Culture) elected municipal councilor in Coulommiers (Seine-et-Marne); Sébastien Lecornu (Local Government) in Vernon (Eure); Geneviève Darrieussecq (Armées) in Mont-de-Marsan (Landes); Marc Fesneau in Marchenoir (Loir-et-Cher);

one was beaten in the first round: Jean-Baptiste Djebbari (Transports) in Limoges (Haute-Vienne)

three were beaten in the second round: Marlène Schiappa (Equality between women and men) in Paris (14th), Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Economy) in Paris (16th), Gabriel Attal (National Education and Youth) elected city councilor opposition to Vanves (Hauts-de-Seine)

one was elected in the second round: Édouard Philippe (Prime Minister) in Le Havre (Seine-Maritime).

Worse, the ranks of the executive have not made up for the deficit in the establishment of the Macronist party. Emmanuel Macron, who had called his ministers to run, sees none of them winning a new seat as a municipal councilor: all the members of the elected government have in fact been reappointed.
