Investigators told him: ‘The fire was so hot, it melted the wheels of the car’
BEND, Oregon (KTVZ) – Bend resident Travis Cook has been experiencing a nightmare in the past few days.
He was informed by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Monday that both his mother, Cathy, and her brother, Justin, had been killed in the Beachie Creek fire.
Travis had been looking for answers after not hearing from his family members since the fire hit Santiam Canyon on Sept. 7.
Now, his worst fears are reality.
Channel 21’s Alec Nolan spoke to Cook on Wednesday night about the traumatic events of the past week and how his family tried to escape the flames that destroyed their home in Gates.
He said an investigator told him the “fire was so hot, it melted the wheels of the car.”
Nolan’s report is coming to NewsChannel 21 First at Ten on Fox.
