Benfica have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the sale of Portuguese defender Ruben Dias and the purchase of Nicolas Otamendi.
The Portuguese club announced that Dias will join City for € 68m (£ 62m) with Argentine center-back Otamendi moving in the opposite direction for £ 15m (£ 13.6m).
Both agreements are subject to the personal terms agreement with the respective clubs.
A communication from Benfica announced that the club had reached two agreements with City.
It read: “In the first statement, Benfica had reached an agreement with Manchester City for the sale of all the rights of central defender Rúben Dias for an amount of 68 million euros, plus an additional 3.6 million euros. , depending on the achievement of the goals related to the sporting performance of the English club.
“The aforementioned agreement is subject to the signing of the player’s sports employment contract with Manchester City.
“In the second statement, (Benfica) said they have reached an agreement with Manchester City to acquire the full rights of central defender Nicolás Otamendi for an amount of € 15m.
“This agreement is subject to the signing of a sports employment contract with the player and medical examinations.”
Dias, 23, will become City’s second defensive signing of the summer after bringing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth in an initial deal worth £ 40 million in August.
The club are hoping the two arrivals will address the main perceived weakness in manager Pep Guardiola’s squad last season.
City have long been linked to Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, but have shifted their attention elsewhere due to the Italian club’s asking price.
Otamendi, 32, is set to move after a five-year stint at City in which he won seven major honors, including two Premier League titles.
