After a long period of unavailability, probably busy being a mom for her three grandchildren, Beyonce is back, babeyyy!
The singer came out of her hiding place to share the trailer for her next visual album, Black is king, which will be available on Disney + on July 31.
Inspired by The Lion King, Black is king was written, directed and produced by Queen Bey. Over the weekend, she gave us a one-minute teaser on her website, beyonce.com.
The film arrives just after the first anniversary of the new version of The Lion King, in which Bey voiced Nala. She also organized the soundtrack for the remake, The Lion King: the gift.
The film is based on the aforementioned soundtrack, which includes appearances by Bey, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, 070 Shake, Tierra Whack, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy Carter, and more.
“Black is king is a memorial to the world celebrating the experience of black people, “said Parkwood Entertainment of Disney and Beyoncé when the visual album was announced.
“The film is a story for the ages that informs and reconstructs the present. A meeting of shared generational cultures and beliefs. A story of how the most broken people have an extraordinary gift and a meaningful future. “
According to the press release, the visual album reinterprets the teachings of The Lion King for “the young kings and queens of today in search of their own crowns”.
It took a year to produce the film, Bey working alongside a team that represented “diversity and connectivity”.
Black is king honors the “journeys of black families, through time”, with the visual album emphasizing the story of a young king and his “transcendent journey through betrayal, love and the identity of oneself “. The announcement continues, “Black is king is the affirmation of a great goal, with lush visuals that celebrate black resilience and culture. The film highlights the beauty of tradition and the excellence of black people. “
