The design comes from Florida, but obviously the technology comes from China: BLU now wants to conquer Europe at relatively low prices. Will it work?
Although the BLU brand (short for “Bold Like Us”) has long established itself in the United States, Europe is so far a pristine territory for them. No wonder they’re going uphill overseas, after all they flirt with the fact that cheap mobile devices were designed in Florida. Of course they are only cheap because they are made in China like much of the competition.
BLUE G50 + for 100 euros
With the hardware from MediaTek it is possible to get prices starting from 100 euros, estimated for example for the BLU G50 +. In addition to a 1.6 GHz octacore, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable flash storage (micro SD up to 64 GB) form the somewhat weak base, but hey, the price has to be right. Android 10 is shown on a 6.2-inch display with HD + resolution and a teardrop notch, which contains an 8MP selfie cam.
The main camera on the back offers 13 MP, but it shouldn’t shoot any masterpieces despite the “AI camera” branding. A fingerprint sensor is also located on the back. The battery has a powerful 4,000 mAh, which together with the relatively undemanding chip technology should be enough for around 2 days of operation with moderate use.
BLUE G70 for 130 euros
The BLU G70 is available for a supplement of 30 euros, or about 130 euros. Compared to the G50 +, there are actually very few differences. The display grows to a 6.4-inch diagonal, with the resolution remaining the same. On the back, the 13MP camera is supported by a depth sensor and instead of an unnamed chipset, the MediaTek Helio A25 with 8 x 1.8 GHz provides the basis for performance. However, why micro SD up to 128GB are supported here is not entirely clear.
BLUE G90 for 200 euros
Finally, the “high end” in the European smartphone portfolio is the BLU G90. This comes with a 6.5-inch display with 1600 x 720 pixels, a MediaTek Helio A25, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of expandable storage. The camera will likely be the best of all the devices now available, at least on the back is a triple cam setup with 16 MP, depth sensor and an 8 MP wide angle. The selfie cam on the front has a resolution of 13 MP.
BLU Online Shop: “Available Soon”
BLU seems to sell smartphones exclusively through its online store, at least for the moment; they are not yet listed on Amazon and Co. However, at the moment it is not possible to order them through the official channels, it says “Available soon”.
