Break for football leagues; See you at the World Cup

Arsenal in England

With the World Cup approaching, leagues in Europe are taking a break. A temporary curtain has fallen on the league season this Sunday, with the Football World Championship due to start in Qatar next Sunday.

Arsenal are leading in England. Arsenal extended their lead to five points with a 2-0 win over Wolves after second-placed Manchester City went down 2-1 to Brentford. Liverpool beat Southampton 3-1 while Tottenham Hotspur beat Leeds United 4-3. Bournemouth beat Everton 3-0 and Leicester beat West Ham United 2-0 while Chelsea lost 1-0 to Newcastle. Arsenal have 37 points and City have 32 points. Newcastle are third with 30 points.

Barca in Spain

When Spain’s La Liga leaves for the World Cup after 14 rounds, Barcelona leads with 37 points. Defending champions Real Madrid, who were on a high at the start, have lost one of their last three games and drawn one, dropping them to second place with 35 points. Real Sociedad (26) is third.

Naples in Italy

Napoli’s big jump in the Italian Serie ‘A’ is the news. Napoli, who are unbeaten, have 41 points from 15 games. Teams Lazio, AC Milan and Inter Milan are in the next positions with 30 points.

PSG in France

PSG is making tremendous progress in France’s Ligue One. In the 15th round, PSG defeated Auxerre 5-0 and scored 41 points. Lens (36) and Rennes (31) are in second and third place.

Bayern in Germany

Bayern Munich, the current winners of the German Bundesliga, are preparing to retain the title. Bayern beat Schalke 2-0 in the 15th round and got 34 points. RB Leipzig (28) and Union Berlin (27) are in the next positions.
