John Krasinski saved The Office characters Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly’s relationship after the show’s writers wanted them to split up in season 9.
In the book The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, Author Andy Greene said the show’s creator Greg Daniels wanted to break Halpert and Beesly in season 9 with a cheating scandal, Collider reported. The characters released their relationship in season 4.
One of Office writers, Owen Ellickson, revealed the alternative secret ending in the book.
Halpert and Beesly’s relationship was on the rocks when he accepted a job in Philadelphia in season 9. At the time, a new character Brian was introduced and was a comfort to Beesly while Halpert was gone.
Ellickson, 41, said he expected Beesly and Brian to “connect a little.” He added, “In the end, I don’t think it was really about going there. They never did anything. It was just to introduce concern to the audience. “

They didn’t go ahead with the plan because of Krasinski, now 40, who played Halpert.
“We had to pull the ripcord over it because it was so painful for fans of the series. John Krasinski said to me, “ Brent, this last season is for the show’s ultra fans. These are the only ones that are really left to watch, right? It’s for them. Jim and Pam are separating is too painful for them to keep going until the meeting. We need to bring them together immediately, ”said writer Brent Forrester in the book.
He added, “I was like, ‘Wow, we can’t allow this beautiful couple to really be on the brink of divorce. It’s too horrible for them. »»
In season 6, Halpert and Beesley married after Beesley discovered she was pregnant. Jenna Fischer, who played Beesley, was pregnant in real life during season 8 and her pregnancy was written in the script.
When Office finished after 9 seasons, the characters of Krasinki and Fischer married two children.
