Cambodia opens ‘first expressway’ reveals total traffic on first day nears 9,000 cars

Xinhua – Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) said on Saturday the first day of trial operation of the country’s first expressway, nearly 9,000 vehicles were on the road on the expressway.

“From 7:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday (1) there were 8,927 motor vehicles on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway. Enter and exit through eight expressway checkpoints,” said the Ministry of Public Works, with private cars and cargo trucks roaming on this expressway.

“Expressways help facilitate travel. make the vehicle drive faster and reduce the congestion that exists now. It will also help promote better trade and tourism,” said the Permanent Secretary for Trade.

A representative of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway said that This expressway is the result of cooperation between China and Cambodia under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
