In the midst of an outbreak, Pence urges Americans to wear masks and social distance
Vice President Pence on Sunday implored Americans to wear face masks, distance themselves and stay away from the elderly to protect them amid yet another spike coronavirus because the United States has exceeded 2.5 million confirmed cases.
At an event in Dallas, Pence congratulated Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) for his “decisive action” in reopening the state’s economy in early May. But with state hospitals experiencing an increase in the number of patients In the midst of soaring infection rates, Pence praised Abbott for cutting back on some reopening measures, including ordering closures of bars and restaurants to reduce occupancy.
The virus has killed more than 123,000 people in the United States, and American cases represent by far the largest share of the global workload. In Texas, coronavirus hospitalizations hit a record for the 16th consecutive day on Saturday, with 5,523 patients treated.
