‘Drug Smell’ Showcase, Devolver Digital ‘Marketing to Countdown’ Revealed

The moderator comes out and throws the game message. A short trailer video is then released. Developers appear to introduce the game and announce the release date. Most of the game showcases are conducted in a similar fashion. However, the picture of a single company is slightly different. Indie game publisher Devolver Digital is a good example.

Devolver Digital participated in the Summer Gamefest on the 10th and introduced Devolver Direct 2022. This showcase was created to promote 4 new lineups and 1 previously published lineup. However, the method was slightly different. Rather, the showcase developed more interestingly than the public lineup, drawing high praise from real-time viewers.

The showcase features a presentation by the fictional game company Devolver’s digital marketing team. While executives who could only be seen in the so-called ‘The Three Brothers’ appeared and parodies the marketing trends surrounding the game industry, the main focus is on the content that practitioners are confused about.

In the process, developer Shuda51 (‘No More Heroes’, ‘Chain Show Lollipop’, etc.) appeared as a host and transformed into a robot. He plays the role of a naive robot who doesn’t know anything, throwing out boney jokes.

The climax of the show is, after all, at the end. The show ends with a look at how Shuda51, who has obtained the last absolute ring in ‘Middle Realm (?)’, or ‘root box coin (gacha coin)’, uses it.

The total length of the show is about 25 minutes, and the actual length is about 20 minutes, excluding the early parody and ending credits. During the show, it has the charm of bursting viewers with all kinds of satire and black humor without a break. The fact that the game company directly presents parodies that no other stand-up comedian can do deserves praise.

In particular, the cast and Shuda51’s chemistry are the highlight of this show.

Grab a beer in your hand and see the showcase that will go down in the history of gaming.

On the other hand, unlike the showcase with a high degree of perfection, it is evaluated that the game lineup they released is disappointing. It was a showcase that deserved to be parody of itself again.
