[Brussels, 15th Reuters]–The European Union (EU) announced on the 15th a bill to unilaterally dismiss some of the Northern Ireland arrangements included in the Brexit agreement. Two new legal proceedings have been started, and the other one, which had been suspended, has resumed.

The European Court of Justice may order fines, but the ruling is likely to be more than a year away.

The European Commission has stated that it still wants to resume talks on issues surrounding the shipment of British products to Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland remains in the EU unified market to avoid reinstatement of border control with Ireland, a member state of the EU, and imports from the UK mainland require customs declaration. Inspection on arrival may be required.

EU officials said, “The British government has once again expressed its intention to violate international law. You don’t have to ask a lawyer to know that the one-sided change to the agreement is wrong.”
