The governor Wanda Vázquez Garced reported that the federal government extended until June 24 the grant from the Puerto Rico National Guard following the emergency by COVID-19. This will allow the extension of the activation of the National Guard for assistance related to the prevention, mitigation and response to public health and safety due to the coronavirus.
“This federal assistance is of great importance to Puerto Rico. The National Guard has been key in supporting citizens during these past months of emergency. Continuing to count on their assistance allows for a more comprehensive response and fight during these times, ”he said. Vazquez Garced.
The governor also stressed that: “On behalf of all the residents of Puerto Rico, I thank the President Donald J. Trump and the federal government for support in times of crisis. ”
“The extension of the federal money allows nearly a thousand men and women of the Puerto Rico National Guard to continue the excellent work with screening at airports, also in the cargo ports of San Juan, as well as carrying out tests of COVID-19 to the first responders around the island. All these initiatives are carried out in coordination with the Department of Health for the well-being and security of the people of Puerto Rico in the face of this pandemic, ”said the Adjutant General of Puerto Rico, Division General, José Reyes.
