Fox Sports and the US Golf Association are terminating their approximately $ 1.2 billion 12-year deal that included the US Open, The Post learned.
Seven years remained on the Fox Sports-USGA contract.
Fox’s rights are expected to pass to NBC, which will produce the US Open this fall.
The original deal was nearly $ 100 million a year.
The PA also reported news of the agreement.
An announcement was scheduled for Monday. NBC and Fox Sports were not available to comment on Sunday evening.
NBC will broadcast the Winged Foot US Open on September 17 and 20. This will avoid a problem for Fox, who had the NFL Sunday that day.
NBC had broadcast the US Open from 1995 to 2004.
While Fox improved its coverage after a slow start, she and the USGA would have had problems during the years of the contract. In addition to the men’s US Open, Fox had broadcast the US Women’s Open and the Senior Tour.
The Golf Channel, which has just suffered major layoffs in its Orlando-based staff, could possibly organize more events. Like NBC, it belongs to Comcast.
FS1 was also part of the Fox Sports golf cover.
