Nick Kyrgios does not hold back regarding Sascha Zverev and COVID-19.
Video has surfaced of Zverev, ranked # 7 in the world on the ATP circuit, partying and dancing in a crowded club even after saying he would self-isolate for 14 days following several players tested positive on the Adria circuit.
“I deeply apologize to anyone I have put in danger … I will follow self-isolation guidelines … stay safe,” Zverev said last week.
Zverev was not among those who tested positive, while world # 1 Novak Djokovic, Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troiki all did. Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic also tested positive.
In a video posted on Instagram, Kyrgios lambasted the German tennis star:
“I see more controversial things happening in the world, but one thing that came to my mind was to see Sasha Zverev, again man, again. How selfish can you be? How selfish can you be?
“If you have the audacity to publish a tweet that you have asked your management to write on your behalf saying that you are going to isolate yourself for 14 days and apologizing to the general public for putting their health at risk – at least have the audacity to stay inside for 14 days, my god.
“This world of tennis pisses me off seriously. How can you all become selfish?”
Kyrgios, known for his abusive and savage behavior on the tennis court, became in a way the voice of reason in the world of men’s tennis during the pandemic. The No. 40 player in the world had previously torn Djokovic and the other players to party in clubs in Europe on the Adria circuit, and also called the Americans “selfish” to want to continue the US Open in full pandemic.
