Kuwait City | The groom paid 10 lakh dinars (about Rs. 26 crores) as mahr to the bride in the wedding held in Kuwait yesterday. The groom surprised everyone by writing a check for this amount at the time of marriage registration (nikah).
It is reported that this is the highest mahr amount among the marriages registered in the country in recent times. According to Islamic belief, the groom is required to give mahr to the bride upon marriage. If the groom so requests, the value of the mahr will be recorded in the marriage contract.
But there is no upper or lower limit for Mahar.
