India registers highest coronavirus infections in a single day

(MENAFN) The Ministry of Health said that India has recorded its largest influx of COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours with 19,906 new patients on Sunday.

The number of infections has now reached 528,859 in the country.

The deaths affected 16,095 people, after 410 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours.

Guwahati, capital of Assam state, in the northeast of the country, will be placed in full sequestration for a period of 14 days to control the spread of COVID-19.

The state government said in a statement that there will be no supply of vegetables and other essentials for the first seven days.

The western state of Maharashtra, with 159,133 infections, is still number one in terms of coronavirus infections in the country.
