Indonesia criminalizes extramarital sex; The law also applies to World | tourists Deshabhimani

The Indonesian Parliament has passed a law banning extramarital sex. Men and women are forbidden to live together without marriage.

Breaking the law is punishable by up to a year in prison for adultery. The law applies to foreigners living in Indonesia and visiting tourist destinations including Bali. Concerns have been raised that the new law will affect Indonesia’s image as a tourist destination. It was a crime to criticize the president or government institutions and express opinions contrary to Indonesian values.
