It has been confirmed that the International Labor Organization (ILO) has requested the opinion of the Korean government on the order to start the work of the Cargo Solidarity Headquarters (Cargo Solidarity) of the Confederation of Korean Trade Unions.

Yesterday (4th), according to the Confederation of Korean Trade Unions and the Ministry of Employment and Labour, the ILO recently sent an official document to the Ministry of Labour.

This is in line with the KCTU, the Public Transport Workers Union, and the International Transport Workers Union asking the ILO to urgently intervene in this situation before ordering the government to start operations for the cargo union on the 28th of last month.

Karen Curtis, deputy director of the International Labor Standards Office of the ILO, wrote in a letter to KCTU Chairman Yang Kyung-soo and KCTU Public Transport Workers Union Chairman Hyun Jung-hee, saying, “We have immediately intervened with the Korean government and conveyed the position of the ILO on the issue you raised.” We will pass on any information you give us.”

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions and the ILO used the term ‘intervention’, but the government rejected it as ‘opinion inquiry’.

An official from the Ministry of Employment and Labor said in a phone call with Yonhap News, “It is not a formal supervision procedure.” The process is over,” he explained.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choo Kyung-ho said, “It is true that a letter has come from the ILO in the name of the Secretary-General,” adding, “However, we believe that it is only an opinion this is simple. inquiry.”
