IU becomes the first female Korean singer to hold a solo concert at the Olympic Stadium

Singer and actress IU (29, Ji-eun Lee) will be the first female singer in Korea to hold a solo concert at the Olympic Main Stadium, Jamsil Sports Complex, Seoul, the ‘dream stage’.

On the afternoon of the 27th, his agency EDAM Entertainment announced on social media that IU would hold a solo concert ‘The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun’ at the Olympic Stadium on September 17-18.

There are only a handful of Korean singers who performed solo at the Olympic Main Stadium, where more than 40,000 spectators gather.

HOT, Shinhwa, god, Cho Yong-pil, TVXQ, Lee Seung-hwan, Lee Seung-cheol, JYJ, Lee Moon-se, Seo Tai-ji, EXO, BTS, and Psy. Among overseas pop stars, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Coldplay and others performed.

Among foreign female singers, Lady Gaga performed in 2012. IU became the first female singer in Korea to perform on stage at the Olympic Stadium, and at the same time, became the first female singer to perform at this venue in 10 years after Gaga.

Celebrating the 14th anniversary of her debut this year, IU promoted a performance at the Olympic main stadium in 2020, but it is reported that it was canceled due to the aftermath of Corona 19. However, IU, who turned 30 this year at her age, opened her 30s as another meaningful record.

In particular, September 18 is also the day IU debuted with the song ‘Mia’ on Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ in 2008.

The concert starts at 7pm on both days. Considering that the event is held in early autumn, it is just at sunset. This means that the Olympic Stadium has an open roof, so it is the time when the sunset created by the orange sun fills the venue. That’s why the subtitle is ‘Under the Orange Sun’.

Accordingly, the opening song is highly likely to be ‘Eight’ with the lyrics “We dance together under the orange sun / without shadows”. ‘Eight’ is a song co-produced by IU and Suga, a member of the global supergroup ‘BTS’. Suga also featured.

This is the first IU concert in three years since 2019.

IU also set a new record for female singers at previous concerts. In 2018, she was the fourth female solo singer to hold a solo concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium, which is known as a sacred place for concerts by Korean singers.
