UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones does not intend to give Dominick Reyes an immediate rematch after their close fight at UFC 247.
‘Bones’ won a unanimous decision over Reyes at the February event in Houston, but the judges’s decision did not please many combat fans. Even UFC President Dana White admitted that he scored the Main Event of UFC 247 in favor of “The Devastator”.
Dominick Reyes had recently accused Jon Jones of speaking big on social networks, but of not having the gull to sign a contract for another “dogfight“.
“I know the UFC is on board,” said Reyes. “I know I’m on board. The problem is Jon right now. He will say that he is online, obviously on Twitter. When he has these contracts before him, he is a little different. This is where we are. “
“It was a dog fight, brother,” added Reyes. “The last fight was a pure dog fight. I don’t think he wants to start over. I do not know. I do not know. I don’t think Jon Jones wants those hands again. He doesn’t want to get into this dog fight with me. This is where we are. ”
That evening Jones responded to Reyes and apparently closed the idea of an immediate revenge between the two.
Instead, “Bones” says it plans to fight growing competitor Jan Jan Blachowicz.
Now suddenly I’m afraid of a good dogfight? Pretty sure I walked him down for 25 minutes straight when we fought. One thing about being the champion of the world, you got to search for fresh meat on every soil. I’m feeling like popping some 🍒 in Poland, haven’t had that yet. pic.twitter.com/frnLyFUkN1— BONY (@JonnyBones) April 18, 2020
“Now suddenly I’m afraid of a good dog fight? I’m almost sure I accompanied him for 25 minutes straight when we fought. One thing being to be the champion world, you have to look for fresh meat on any soil. I want to pop cherries in Poland, I haven’t had that yet. ”
Jon Jones and Jan Blachowicz had previously agreed to fight after the Poles’ quintessential first-round victory over Corey Anderson in February.
The win has improved Jan’s winning streak three times in a row and has improved his overall record to 7-1 in his last eight fights.
Although Jones has clearly expressed his intentions, UFC President Dana White recently revealed that the promotion was aimed at a Jones vs. Reyes rematch for this summer.
