Kohli’s performance affects Diwali shopping; Massive reduction in UPI transactions

India’s epic victory against Pakistan has led to an outpouring of joy across the country. Virat Kohli’s brilliant innings turned out to be one of his best innings. The India-Pakistan cricket match was full of buzz and excitement keeping people glued to their television sets and mobile phones for a long time. This has severely affected Diwali shopping and UPI transactions.

India saw the Diwali shopping rush at its peak on October 23 until the competition started at 1:30 PM. Around 10:30 am to 12:00 pm Bharat Pay UPI transaction volume rose by 15 percent during this time.

But with the start of the India-Pakistan cricket match, UPI transactions started declining, which affected Diwali shopping. People put their shopping aside to watch the game. It shows people’s enthusiasm for competition. By half past noon, UPI transactions dropped significantly.

India won the toss and elected to bowl. UPI transactions fell to around 6 percent when Pakistan batted. Pakistan ended the innings with a score of 159. Bharat Pay UPI transactions have been active again for a while after the competition took a break.

But at 3:30 pm, when India started batting, Bharat Pay UPI transactions started to see a decline again, indicating that people were postponing shopping to watch the match.

The steep drop in UPI’s transaction volume came when Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 82 came off 53 balls in the last over of the match. The number of transactions dropped sharply by 6 percent at around 4:45 pm Around 5:30 PM, UPI transactions dropped by -20 percent.

Later, as soon as the competition ended, the shopping rush and UPI transactions started picking up. After six o’clock there was a 6 percent increase in UPI transactions. “Yesterday there was a dip in UPI transactions from 9 am until evening – when the cricket match was interesting, people put off online shopping – there was a sharp rebound after the match!” Max Life Chief Investment Officer Mihir Vora said in a tweet on Monday.

Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls to lead India to a historic four-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling T20 World Cup match on Sunday. After recovering from the collapse, Pakistan scored 159 for the loss of eight wickets. India’s victory came on the last ball in a very exciting match.
