Carol and Raymond Bedard’s family would like to express their gratitude to the following health heroes: Dunns Corners Fire Department, Charlestown & Westerly Ambulance, Westerly Hospital, HopeHealth Hospice and Palliative Care RI and in particular the Westerly Health Center and Buckler-Johnston Funeral House .
The year 2020 began with the anticipation of our father’s 85th birthday party on January 11th. Our dad (and mom) were thrilled and surprised by the many friends and family members who attended. Looking back, it was such a bittersweet moment but we managed to capture the joy of that day in pictures.
Unfortunately, 2020 then took a turn. We lost both of our parents within eight weeks of pneumonia shortly before COVID-19 tests started to become available. It was during this time that we saw many of the above health heroes. They were so kind, understanding and compassionate for everything we were going through with both of our parents, inside and outside the ambulances, inside and outside the hospital, rehabilitation centers and then the hospital.
The Westerly Health Center was so considerate, not only for our mother but also for us. They understood that we never had time to cry for our father before our mom got sick quickly, they did everything possible to allow us to stay with her until the end (pre-COVID). We will never forget their kindness and compassion.
Our parents had been married for almost 64 years. We always knew that they would join quickly once they passed the first one, but we never thought it would be so fast. With what is going on in the world, we are happy that they are in heaven together and able to have fun walking and breathing freely alone and enjoying the eternal.
