At around 10:45 last night, a 52-year-old company executive who lived in Minato-ku, Tokyo, was riding an electric kickboard in an apartment parking lot in Kachidoki, Chuo-ku, when he hit a car stop and fell over.

The man hit his head hard and was taken to hospital for treatment, but died on the afternoon of the 26th.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, this is the first fatal accident involving an electric scooter in Japan.

The electric scooter the man was riding was borrowed by a government-certified operator for a demonstration trial in Tokyo, and there was no obligation to wear a helmet, and the man was not wearing a helmet.

The police are investigating the details of the accident.
