This may be the future of cruising – smaller ships, fewer passengers and crew, and entry into lesser-known ports.
This could address the concerns of passengers when they resume travel.
Evergreen Cruises, which is affectionately known for its luxury four-star river cruises, expands its horizons to the experience of the small yacht.
Launched in 2021, catching up with the end of the Mediterranean summer, the new Emerald Azzurra is designed to accommodate only 100 people.
Evergreen Sales, Marketing and Product Manager Angus Crichton expressed interest in small vessels, saying he thought some large cruise lines could switch to yachting.
“When we announced that we were going to build the Azzurra, it was a completely new concept. It was a boating experience for only 100 people, exploring lesser-known routes.
“And given the coronavirus crisis, the problem with this yacht is that you share the space with a lot less people. And it will be great. If you are looking for space, the restaurant, at full capacity, has enough space for one person for every three meters. And on the terrace, the same goes for 45 people.
“This is a privileged moment for the major cruise lines, who have thought of yachting, to consider this style of cruise, given the current circumstances.”
The ship was designed to sail on the Adriatic coast, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, and due to its size, it will have access to smaller ports.
“The Azzurra the first season will take place in the Mediterranean. And during the Mediterranean winter, she will sail on the Red Sea. Although it was not the most popular route, we had a surprising interest in this sail. And for 12 days, the crossings start at $ 7,545, “he said.
“We have developed trips that can reach smaller and quieter ports. You will be far from large tourist areas. And we will take you to places where only other private yachts can dock, so you will be far from the crowds. “
The modern 100-person yacht will include spacious suites, most of which have balconies.
Refined à la carte dinners and breakfast and lunch buffets will be served in the spacious Reflections restaurant. The chefs will use fresh, local ingredients.
Guests will have access to a special marina platform for a variety of activities, including paddle boards and snorkelling equipment. The ship includes three tenders and two zodiacs for land ashore in a true super yacht style.
Ashore, guests can enjoy the included EmeraldPLUS cultural experiences, a range of EmeraldACTIVE excursions included, and have the option of booking optional DiscoverMORE excursions to customize their cruise.
“A typical day on the Azzurra it might look like that – you will start your day with breakfast on the patio, before swimming in the pool or jumping out of the ship’s marina for a swim in the sea, ”said Crichton.
“Then you could get off the ship and do a self-exploration where you can have lunch in certain villages and towns or come back and have lunch on the ship. Maybe after another swim and a nap, it’s time for cocktails and then dinner. “
And while Mr. Crichton said that while the experience is exceptional, it is not at a level of high-end luxury.
“SeaDream, which is a high-end boutique brand, and Katarina, a hyperlocal Croatian brand, may be our two main competitors. But we differentiate ourselves from these two by our experiences, our prices and our routes, ”he said.
“Our most popular trip by far when we opened reservations is the route on the Croatian coast. For $ 10,285 per person, a 15-day trip on the yacht includes beer, wine, all meals and guided tours of the city in the main ports. In the small ports, you will have the possibility to explore yourself. “
