Omar García Harfuch. Last goodbye to woman killed in attack

Family and friends say goodbye in Xalatlaco, Estado de México a Gabriela Gomez, the 26-year-old girl who died after the attack against the Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, Omar Garcia Harfuch, on June 26 in the streets of Lomas de Chapultepec.

At her home, located in the Potrero community, her husband José, their two daughters, their father and brothers performed a Christian religious ceremony to say goodbye to them.

Veiled women, men with tambourines, and children with Bible in hand chant religious songs with which they ask for redemption for the young woman: “Beyond the sun, beyond the sun, I have a home, where I have to go, beyond the Sun”.

There are also friends, neighbors, municipal police and even Civil Protection personnel in charge of delivering mouth covers and gel antibacterial for all those who come to offer condolences to the Gomez family.

José, the young widower wears a black suit. He doesn’t speak to anyone, he just sings and they extend their right hand towards while holding a Bible. In the other hand, his sister supports him so that he does not fall. The lady also wipes her forehead, tears and nose.

In the place there are at least 60 people, but the voice that is most heard while singing is his: “There are words that are not enough to tell you how much I love you.”

On the walls of the house, the woman’s sisters pasted cards with religious verses read by their “church brothers.” For this farewell the family set up benches, chairs and a small stage from where the church choir sings songs at all times. Here too Monica and Johana, 9 and 4 years old; Gabriela’s daughters. The youngest does not understand what is happening, but the oldest does not stop crying.

Chrysanthemums, roses, carnations, gladiolas and lilies, in white, adorn the house with one floor and a dirt floor where Gabriela is prayed for. During the farewell words, the whole family prays for José’s resignation and demands that someone intervene so that the authorities do not leave the family alone.

Gaby, as they called her dear, died of a gunshot wound to the head, while traveling with her husband, sister and sister-in-law in her car. They were going to their quesadilla stalls in the Metro Auditorium. The bullet came from suspected hitmen from the Jalisco New Generation cartel, who ambushed and attempted to assassinate the chief of the capital’s police.
