With the Covid-19, producing drugs and hydroalcoholic gel is the goal of the factories of the Pierre Fabre Group. On the Peyrat site in the Lot, activity is considered essential for hospitals and pharmacies.
If the priority of the Pierre Fabre Group is to protect its employees and its partners against the spread of the virus, the company which usually employs 7000 employees in Occitania on its 9 production sites and its 3 distribution sites is no exception to its mission first: make medicines and skin hygiene care.
Faced with the pandemic, it does not intend to surrender and instead goes into battle, by running 8 of its 9 factories in France.
This is the case at its Peyrat site in Cahors, where 70 employees manufacture essential products (notably those for ENT therapy, otolaryngology), smoking cessation drugs such as Nicopass, drops of essences and essential oils. of the Naturactive brand, a phyto range and respiratory lozenges, etc.
“Currently, we are primarily sending pharmacies and hospitals all products for the ENT sector, in particular related to covid-19 pathologies and smoking cessation drugs. The size and production lines on the Peyrat site do not allow us to produce hydroalcoholic gel in this Pierre Fabre du Lot unit. However, our dermocosmetic factory in Soual, in the Tarn, being the largest and most suitable, has started to produce them, ”specifies the management.
300,000 bottles of hydroalcoholic gel
It was under the Ducray brand, its most medical cosmetic range, that Pierre Fabre began to produce and deliver 300,000 bottles of 100 ml of hydroalcoholic gel intended for pharmaceutical establishments.
“It is not a product usually manufactured by the Group, but we are urgently adapting our operations to make this major product available in the fight against Covid-19”, specifies the management of the company.
“100 people allowed to work at the same time”
So how can we maintain this Pierre Fabre Group’s “medication” activity, more essential than ever, despite the restrictions and risks?
“Site by site, we have confirmed the functions, the human resources and the technical means allowing the maintenance of the essential activity. As far as possible, we have identified backup plans for each link, ”explains Valérie Roucoulès, in charge of communications for the Pierre Fabre Group.
Thus on a single site, a maximum of 100 people is authorized to work, at the same time. “Safety, hygiene and social distancing measures – already drastic in normal times in any pharmaceutical establishment – have been reinforced by temperature controls, the wearing of gloves and masks, depending on their availability per site …”, insists Valérie Roucoulès.
Monitor everything: stocks, replenishment and logistics
To last, Pierre Fabre also watches over its raw materials and supplies. “We monitor our stocks, deliveries and supplies on a daily basis, to update the situation every day. The same goes for our transport and delivery capacities. Our logistics partner is perfectly aligned with our needs, “warns group management.
This business continuity plan is also the subject of permanent monitoring by the general management and is updated according to official health and public directives, and the general economic situation.
