A swarm of vicious horse flies whose bites may require medical treatment strikes UK parks and gardens.

While the British are enjoying a heat wave and some time after locking outside, experts announce an invasion of wicked insects, Mirror reports.

And families have been warned to empty the wading pools in the garden because the pests are attracted to the water.

With more people outdoors taking walks, gardening and sunbathing, insects are attracted to more skin for food.

And things will probably get worse with thunderstorms expected, while flies thrive in hot, rainy weather.

Horse fly bites are almost always extremely painful, considered worse than a wasp or bee sting. But in the worst case, the bites can become infected, causing cellulite, and severe reactions have forced people to seek treatment in the hospital.

The British Pest Control Association, which places horse flies in its list of the ten best bites and bites to avoid, claims that a plague theory is that more people are outside than usual, which increases the possibilities for flies to feed.

Describing flies, the BPCA states: “Literally designed to eat a horse, their bite is both impressive and painful.

“The horse fly is a bloodthirsty insect and therefore wants to bite you.

“They can constantly chase you at a flight speed of about 15 mph, and it will bite through clothing.

“He has mandibles that can tear and tear the flesh.”

Sentomol pest control company warned: “Unlike insects that surreptitiously puncture the skin with needle-like organs, horse flies have specially adapted mouthparts that they use to tear and / or cut the flesh into parts.

“It makes the blood flow when the horse’s fly licks it.

“The horse fly is secret, with an annoying ability to land undetected and escape before the victim begins to feel pain.

“The resulting bite can be extremely irritating.

“Its bite is considered more immediately painful than that of a mosquito.”

The NHS says that most bites can be safely treated at home. However, they can cause dizziness, weakness, wheezing, and swelling that may require treatment.

The NHS website advises, “The bites can take a long time to heal and can become infected.”

“Consult your general practitioner if you have symptoms of infection, such as pus or increased pain, redness and swelling.”

Horse flies are often found in large numbers in the countryside near the cattle they can feed on. They are attracted to troughs, ponds and marshes filled with water, which provide a source of food and an environment for breeding.

The BPCA has stated that eliminating standing water near homes and garden areas used in the summer – including wading pools – would help protect against bites and stings.
