On the 3rd, President Yoon Seok-yeol sent a message of congratulations and encouragement to the Korean national football team for reaching the World Cup round of 16 after a dramatic victory over Portugal in 12 years.
President Yoon said in a congratulatory message posted on the Social Network Service (SNS) early that day, “The challenge begins again. I congratulate the Korean national football team on advancing to the round of 16.”
President Yoon continued, “Players, coaches and trainers, you have greatly moved the people with your fighting spirit and passion.”
It also contains a message of encouragement for the upcoming World Cup leg. President Yoon said, “Unleash your full potential. Enjoy the game,” he said. “We are looking forward to showing the world the potential of Korean football beyond winning and losing, as it has been until now. I’ll be cheering for you too. Fight,” he wrote.
The national football team led by coach Paulo Bento won 2-1 in the third final match of Group H of the Qatar 2022 World Cup group stage against Portugal held at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar this morning (Korea time) .
