New Delhi : Trinamool Congress leader Yashwant Sinha has been chosen as the common candidate of the opposition parties for the Presidential elections. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has said that Yashwant Sinha’s candidature is a joint decision of 17 opposition parties. The Aam Aadmi Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi have said they will support Sinha.

Earlier, former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah were considered as opposition candidates. But they denied the demand of the parties.
Meanwhile, the BJP has not even officially started discussing its candidates for the July presidential election. According to national media reports, the BJP will decide on its candidate soon.
