Prosecutors arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung’s illegal presidential election

Prosecutors have requested an arrest warrant for Kim Yong, deputy director of the Institute for Democracy, who is a close aide to Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea.

The 3rd Department of Anti-Corruption Investigation at the Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office requested an arrest warrant for Kim on charges of receiving approximately 600 million won by development officials in Daejang-dong, including Dong-gyu Yoo, former head of the Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, four times between April and August last year.

Prosecutors believe that former general manager Yoo Dong-gyu, along with lawyers Jeong Min-yong and Nam Wook, raised 847 million won in illegal political funds and delivered about 600 million of this to Kim.

At a time when the prosecution saw that the money had flown, the Democratic Party was preparing for the presidential election, and Vice President Kim was responsible for organizational management and other tasks as a general manager in the Lee Jae-myung representative camp, and announced his candidacy in July last year.

The prosecution, which expanded the investigation from Daejang-dong development corruption to Wirye new town development corruption, secured a statement from Yoo, “Deputy Director Yong Kim demanded 2 billion won to finance the presidential election,” and has arrested and investigated in a hurry Kim.

Immediately after the arrest, Deputy Director Kim protested, saying, “The allegation of receiving illegal money is not true at all, and the prosecution creates a crime without prosecution.”
