Public enemy team with Nas, Black Thought, Questlove to “ fight the power ” – Deadline

Singer Keedron Bryant launched on BET Rewards with his moving hymn “I Just Wanna Live” which was the perfect way to inaugurate a new interpretation of the classic hip hop “Fight the Power” by Public enemy.

Chuck D and Flavor Flav gathered together Yes from Public Enemy Radio for the updated song to recognize the current landscape, recognizing the protests and rallies resulting from the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, Nina Pop and the countless people in the black community that we lost due to racism and police brutality.

New version includes talents from The Roots’ Black thought and Questlove as good as In, Rapsody and YG providing a lyrical weight to the song originally released in 1989 and featured in Spike Lee Do the right thing. Over 30 years later, the song continues to be a hymn to racial injustice. Nas raps “They say suicide when the corpses sway / Cowards chase black men, that’s what I see.” He later adds: “I’m fighting power now / Thanks to you, Flav and PE for putting it down / Putting your life on the line so that I can rap now” as images of demonstrations across the country.
