He Health Department reported on Monday that the number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 it was placed at 104, which translates into five more than yesterday, after several weeks in which the figure remained below one hundred.
Of that number, eight patients are confined to an Intensive Care Unit and only one is connected to an artificial respirator.
The number of hospitalizations managed to drop, for example, to 78 on June 17.
Salud also reported that confirmed positive cases increased to 1,638 with an additional 13, while probable positive cases stood at 5,612 with 40 recently infected and another seven that had not been reported with a sample date of May 9 to 21.
The agency added that COVID-19 deaths remained at 153 after not registering deaths associated with the disease.
“Without additional fatalities, the total confirmed deaths is 59 and the probable deaths are 94, so the total deaths are 153. It is important to remember that any death recorded after the report is issued will be reflected in subsequent reports, “the agency said in a press release.
Health defined as probable death that death of a patient who was diagnosed with COVID-19 by means of a serological test (not diagnostic) or that his doctor registered death by clinical criteria when evaluating the symptoms. While confirmed deaths involve people who tested positive for a molecular (diagnostic) test.
Similarly, the term confirmed positive case refers to infections whose results were validated by means of a molecular test. Likewise, the probable case refers to that positive result for the disease that was obtained through serological testing.
Confirmed positive cases
The total of 1,638 confirmed positive cases correspond to 813 women and 825 men.
The group of patients between 50 and 59 years continues to dominate with the highest number of infections (323), followed by 40 to 49 years (295) and 30 to 39 years (274).
On the other hand, the metropolitan region registers the most confirmed positive cases with 568. It is followed by the Mayagüez region (246) and Bayamón (234).
Vieques and Culebra remain without confirmed cases. While San Juan continues as the municipality with the most infections in this category with 294 cases, followed by Guaynabo (101), Carolina (101) and Bayamón (93). Health has not yet available the municipality of 42 confirmed cases.
Probable positive cases
The total of 5,612 probable positive cases is broken down into 2,974 that correspond to women and 2,638 to men.
In this category, the group of patients between 50 and 59 years also registered the highest number of likely infected with 1,090, followed by those from 40 to 49 years (956) and from 60 to 69 years (865).
Likewise, the Metro region dominates the statistics with 1,380 probable infected, followed by the Bayamón region (1,069) and the Caguas region (818).
San Juan is the largest municipality with probable cases with 645, followed by Bayamón (311) and Carolina (227). The agency does not have available the town of 137 probable cases.
