China has sent a delegation with government officials and medical professionals to the neighboring country amid rumors about the health of North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-un. That’s what insiders say.
Several people familiar with the situation told Reuters on Saturday that the delegation, headed by a senior member of the Chinese Communist Party’s International Liaison Department, left Beijing on Thursday. The department is the main Chinese body dealing with neighboring North Korea.
Neither the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing nor the liaison department could initially be reached for an opinion.
A website based in the South Korean capital of Seoul had reported earlier this week that Kim had been operated on for cardiovascular problems. The news broadcaster CNN A US government official said Washington was following intelligence information that Kim was in great danger after an operation. A South Korean source, on the other hand, told Reuters that Kim was alive and likely to show up again soon.
Even US President Donald Trump does not expect a serious illness. “I think the report was wrong,” Trump said in the White House Thursday. He had heard that the report on alleged serious health problems was based on “old documents”. “We have a good relationship with North Korea, I have a good relationship with Kim Jong Un and I hope he is doing well,” added Trump.
North Korea has so far been silent on the internationally highly speculated speculations. Kim had surprisingly not attended a traditional event on April 15 to celebrate the birthday of his grandfather, North Korea’s founder Kim Il Sung, who died in 1994.
