World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler captured the 2026 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club on Aug. 30, 2026, overcoming a three-stroke deficit to secure his second FedEx Cup championship and his 22nd career victory.

Scheffler closed out the season with a 4-under 66 in Atlanta, finishing with a 72-hole total of 16-under 264. The victory earned Scheffler a $10 million first-place prize, which lifted his career earnings past Tiger Woods on the Tour’s all-time money list—a top spot Woods had held for 26 years.

The final round at East Lake Golf Club on Aug. 30, 2026, began with Scheffler trailing Viktor Hovland. Viktor Hovland and Ryan Gerard played together in the final group. Scheffler set the tone early by drilling his tee shot at the par-3 second hole to two inches. He added a 24-foot left-to-right birdie putt at the fourth hole to tie for the lead.

Despite giving a stroke back with a bogey at the seventh hole after short-siding himself in a greenside bunker, Scheffler bounced back by hitting a wedge from 96 yards to seven feet for a birdie. Difficult course conditions on Aug. 30, 2026, caused leaders Hovland and Gerard, along with Adam Scott and Chris Gotterup, to shoot over par. Scheffler capitalized by sticking short irons inside 10 feet, adding birdies at the 10th and 13th holes, and securing his two-stroke victory with an 11-foot putt on the 16th hole.

Season Statistics and Preceding Playoff Path

Scheffler’s path to the Tour Championship title included a dominant victory at the opening playoff event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scheffler then contracted Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, which led to a T-12 finish at the BMW Championship before he rebounded at East Lake Golf Club on Aug. 30, 2026.

During the regular season, Scheffler won The American Express in January and experienced a 210-day stretch between victories that featured five runner-up finishes. That runner-up total tied a mark held by six other players over the last 40 years on Tour. He also established the lowest scoring average in a single season on the Tour since 1983, finishing at 67.86.

Player of the Year Outlook and Historical Standing

With his victory on Aug. 30, 2026, Scheffler joined an elite group of three players to win multiple FedEx Cup titles. The win likely secured his fifth Player of the Year award.

Reflecting on his performance after securing the trophy on Aug. 30, 2026, Scheffler said: To come from behind and be able to win this tournament is a really cool feeling. There was a lot of talented guys in front of me on the leaderboard. I was fortunate to get off to a good start and put myself in the mix.
