The UZ Leuven intensive medicine department was looking for an original way to thank all its employees for their efforts. They therefore recorded a cover of ‘Lean On Me’ by Bill Withers together with singer Selah Sue.
Doctors and nurses at the service have been caring for critical COVID patients in recent months. To end this intense period positively, nurse Bas Aerts got the idea to record a video clip. Musician Selah Sue, whose father ended up in intensive care after he became infected with the virus, was willing to put her shoulders to the project. The hospital staff themselves record, edit and edit the music. These are playful images, but they also show the harsh reality that the employees experienced daily in recent months.
“We tried to offer our patients and their families not only excellent but also warm and human care. We are well aware that this was only possible thanks to the enormous efforts and good cooperation with everyone within the hospital, ”says Dr Philippe Meersseman, one of the doctors you can spot in the video.
