Prosecutors and police continue to expand their investigations against Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. Prosecutors conducted an additional search and seizure on ‘Lee’s suspicion of Seongnam FC sponsorship’, and police called and investigated former GH president Lee Hun-wook in connection with GH’s (Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation) ‘sunless camp suspicion’.

On the 4th, the Seongnam District Prosecutor’s Office, Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office seized and searched 7 places including the Seongnam branch of the Nonghyup, Hyundai Department Store, and the Alpha Dome City office in connection with the suspicion of donations to Seongnam FC on the 4th. The three places where the search and seizure targets were revealed are where the mayor is suspected of subsidizing advertising costs to Seongnam FC, the club’s owner, in exchange for various facilities while serving as Seongnam mayor.

In addition to these companies, CEO Lee is suspected of having six other companies, including Doosan E&C and Bundang CHA Hospital, pay 16 billion won in advertising costs. The police told the prosecution about the results of the investigation that CEO Lee was accused of bribing a third party for 5.5 billion won by Doosan E&C. In addition, Mr. A, head of the Seongnam City Strategy Promotion Team, and Mr. B, the former CEO of Doosan E&C, to the prosecution on charges of bribery.

Prosecutors charged A and B without custody, and the indictment is known to include the content that “A conspired with Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung and Seongnam City’s then-policy chief Jeong Jin-ganu.” Former Policy Director Jeong is currently the leader of the party’s political affairs coordination office.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency, which is investigating the ‘GH sunless camp allegation’, recently summoned Lee Heon-wook, a key official, former president of GH, as a suspect. In February, former president Lee was accused of providing a GH dormitory in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, as a presidential campaign by the People’s Power in February.

GH, an organization affiliated with Gyeonggi-do, leased a 200.66 m² (61 pyeong) apartment in Sunae-dong, Bundang-gu for two years at 950 million won in rent in August 2020, when Lee was governor of Gyeonggi. This flat is next door to the house where Lee lived at the time. It is known that the person who sold the apartment to real estate was not a resident, but a former Gyeonggi Provincial Office official who was recently arrested on suspicion of misusing a corporate card.
